The Benefits of Seawater in Thalassotherapy

Drawn from the open sea, filtered, and then heated to a temperature close to body temperature (between 31 and 36°C), the seawater used in thalassotherapy retains all its original qualities—a veritable treasure trove of minerals and living elements! In addition to the many mineral salts and trace elements it contains, it has approximately 27 grams of sodium chloride per liter; this high density gives it greater buoyancy than fresh water and makes movement easier. It teems with animals and plants, making it a tremendous source of nutrients and a biochemical complex that benefits our well-being and health.

Seawater contains many dissolved electrons. Upon contact with it, a fatigued body recharges naturally, absorbing negative ions and replenishing its mineral salts. It is estimated that just 12 minutes of immersion is enough for the skin to absorb these famous negative ions, which then reach the dermis and spread throughout the body! “Potassium ions” migrate to muscle fibers, while “calcium ions” strengthen the bones.

A simple soak in warm seawater thus helps regenerate the body. The sea air also contributes to the sense of well-being provided by thalassspa programs. Purified by the winds and rich in trace elements, it promotes the dilation of capillaries and accelerates the exchange of substances between the human body and the marine environment. Just as when in contact with water, the body recharges, resulting in less stress and renewed vitality!

The Benefits of the Marine Climate

The invigorating air of the seaside is ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation. Combined with the sun’s highly beneficial rays, the marine climate effectively alleviates stress and nervous tension. The iodine released into the air is beneficial and revitalizing for the body. Feelings of fatigue and frustration gradually fade away, and the guest regains harmony between body and mind.

Given today’s fast-paced lifestyle, thalassotherapy centers have become true havens of peace! People go there to rest and recharge! Seawater plays a vital role in restoring fitness and providing the minerals our bodies need.

37 years of wellness...

Since 1988, Les Corallines Thalasso & Resort, owned by La Grande Motte, has been an independent business where a warm welcome is a value passed down from generation to generation.

Back then, wellness wasn’t—as it is today—all the rage… But the opportunity to build a thalassotherapy center in this magical location, facing the sea, was a gamble worth taking—especially since the founders’ family is fiercely committed to the benefits of seawater, which have proven to be truly unique!
